Ill manors movie review.

Ill manors is a really interesting movie which gave me a sense of reality and the truth behind some peoples lives. It was horrific seeing the destruction of the characters as well as the way they were treated. This movie made me realise that a child's life is dependant on their owner meaning their parent, and if they are abandoned then it is unlikely they will learn the norms and values of society and grow up to be something they never thought they would. it is an urban thriller/crime/documentary directed by the rapper and songwriter Plan B (Ben Drew). The movie is a gory violent movie based on what Plan B has seen in ghetto areas, its set in south London. The film itself revolves around sex, drugs, violence and weapons. The movie was made to reflect what Ben Drew has seen in his life and how drugs have affected certain people. The movie itself was a dramatic, intriguing and versatile movie. The movie contained unknown actors that helped put forward the reality element of the movie.

Ill Manors is a low budget, British film, directed by rapper and song writer, Plan B (Ben Drew). The movie itself being a low budget movie, contained actors who aren’t celebrities. It contained actors who helped create a realistic element to the movie. It proved effective as we begin to empathise and feel the emotion for some of the characters throughout the movie. Plan B directed the movie in a way that we as the audience began to see realistic elements in the world today. The film depicts the financial struggles of people within a low class and the consequences they face when they turn to illegal means of earning money. The film has several different storylines which are ultimately weaved together, by using Plan B's original raps to narrate different parts of the story. The characters experienced several different issues as children such as abandonment and sexual abuse which is shown to have affected them to be who they are in the film; drug dealers and prostitutes.

Plan B bravely presented the audience with the realities of life to film watchers who would not be particularly familiar with this sort of lifestyle and brings awareness to the consequences of this reality. The film also shows that today's youth are increasingly getting introduced to criminal activity and believe that it is "cool" to be involved with these kinds of things. This is explicitly shown in he film when Jake, a very young boy who looks around the age of 13 or 14 tries to buy weed from a gang. To gain access to the weed and respect from the gang members, Jake was willing to assault his friend who gave him the money. Also, to be acknowledged by the gang leader, Jake even went to the furthest extent by committing and extremely severe crime. This warns the audience of the measures that young people in today's society, are willing to take. The film is very appealing to the aimed target audience as the events in the film are experienced by characters around a similar age to the target audience making the characters easy to identify with.

I believe the movie is a thriller and a crime fiction; A thriller because there’s lots of drama and action in the film. It is also a crime fiction as the whole film is based on crime. However, the genre of this film is crime fiction and drama. The soundtrack of the movie stood out for me the most as it was very different to other movies. The choice of the rapping as a narration to the stories behind each characters life made the movie feel realistic and believable. Also another character from the film is also a rapper, an English rapper. Ben Drew focused his characters to have a similar background which makes it easier for the characters to adapt to their role as it’s their reality. They are both rappers making them more confident and reliable for the movie.

The plot for Ill manors is a multi-character story set over the course of seven days, a scenario where everyone is fighting for respect, he film focuses on eight core characters and their circles of violence, as they struggle to survive on the streets. Each story weaves into one another, painting an ultra-realistic gritty picture of the world which is on the brink of self-destruction. The audience who would enjoy this movie would be aged (18-35), personally the movie requires a mature audience, it has some gory scenes.  Personally the audience would begin to see the reality of Britain and more importantly some of the stereotypes created in the movie. It also informs the audience about today’s society and what drives people to do certain things in today’s society.

Lastly, the movie is a must see gory violent thriller movie. It is an unforgettable movie. It is a well made British low budget film made by Plan B with an intriguing plot; it has many plot twists that keep you at the edge of your seat. It reflects today’s view and intake on the ghetto areas of London.
